Disciples of Euclid, Pt. 1

about

First of what will hopefully be a series exploring Euclidean rhythms, and their applications for melodic sequences.

This piece was almost entirely generated algorithmically. I set the key (F#), patched up the voices, used some random numbers to determine the patterns, set some general rules and shift registers to suggest the notes to play, and let it run.

To let the timbres of the voices evolve over time, I made a lookup table of tweaks to perform during the performance and literally rolled a 20-sided die to tell me what to do. Sometimes I would ignore the roll when it told me to immediately undo something I just did, but for the most part my direct input to the piece was complete before I hit record.

Equipment used: Eurorack modular synthesizer, Moog Mother-32, Make Noise 0-CoastStrymon Blue Sky, 2x Moog MF-103 Phasers.
